Sunway Communication and NXP Semiconductors partner to bring UWB to IoT Devices

2021.05.31

Shenzhen, China -(May 31th, 2021)- Sunway Communication (SZSE: 300136), a leading supplier of RF Connectivity related, and other performance-critical components and modules, today introduces its UWB modules based on NXP's Trimension™ SR040 and SR150 chipsets.

The SW-M1000-SR040 and SW-M1000-SR150 UWB modules are optimized for FiRa Consortium  use cases and other IoT applications. While the SR040 module is suitable for coin cell battery powered, low power IoT devices such as UWB trackers and tags, the SR150 module is designed for Real-Time Positioning Systems (RTLS) and seamless access control as well as smart home devices. Providing relative positions in 3 dimensions with high accuracy through ToF and AoA measurements creates spatial awareness of people and objects. Additionally, the evaluation kit SW-W-Dev Kit allows developers to quick-start their design.

With several major smartphone and automotive OEMs having already brought UWB to their flagship offerings, there is a high demand for solutions to accelerate developments for the IoT market. Sunway Communication, already well-known for its RF design and antenna competencies, leveraged this know-how to build best-in-class modules, resulting in ability to offer unrivaled Angle-of-Arrival performance. This provides great possibilities for developers in the IoT domain, making use cases such as item tracking, indoor positioning and access control a reality.

“We are very proud of the development with NXP and the products we have now launched”, said Dr Wilson Wu, EVP Marketing of Sunway Communication. “Based on ongoing customer engagements, we know that we have a solution that offers excellent performance helping our customers to differentiate their products.”

Peter Pirc, Senior Marketing Manager for UWB Mobile & IoT Solutions, at NXP Semiconductors commented: “We are delighted to welcome Sunway Communication to our UWB module partners. Their modules and antennas have demonstrated excellent performance, helping to drive our Trimension portfolio into an increasing amount of new IoT applications. As FiRa Consortium members, NXP and Sunway Communication also unite in the vision to contribute to creation of a holistic, interoperable UWB ecosystem that allows for seamless user experiences.”
